About Us

For nearly a decade, Bandology has been working beyond the classroom to spread the love of music throughout our community. Willed into being by people who understand the multiple lifelong benefits that music provides, Bandology strives to bring music to kids and youth, support music educators and advocate for music education.

Our Mission

More music for more kids via education, collaboration and community.

Our Vision

To provide opportunities for youth to play, perform and be inspired, to support the music community in building their programs and outreach, and advocate for more music education to policy makers, politicians and the greater community.

Bandology was founded in 2017 with the establishment of our Band Camp program. From that one week of camp came more and more ideas for music programming and community involvement. Bandology’s goals and plans have only grown since then, to include:

  • Enrich the music experience of youth across Halton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and beyond, and help build transferable skills via band camps, workshops and performance opportunities
  • Support music educators to engage their community and build capacity in their programs by developing plans and resources for use in their classrooms
  • Provide advice and resources for parents and share both anecdotes and research about the value of music education
  • Collaborate with community and arts organizations to bring music to every corner of the community
  • Advocate for music education and experiences by sharing resources and research with community leaders throughout southern Ontario

Music makes a difference in children’s lives for so many reasons. It improves self-confidence and focus, and helps with the learning of important transferable skills such as collaboration, leadership, time management and organization. It has a huge impact on mental health and social skills. It helps students earn scholarships and get into post-secondary education and supports them on their journey into jobs and future careers.

Here at Bandology, we’re not trying to make superb musicians; our goal has always been to support kids and youth in our programs to become well-rounded people as they grow up. The skills kids get in music last a lifetime!

Land Acknowledgement

Halton, as we know it today, is rich in the history and modern traditions of many First Nations and the Métis. From the lands of the Anishinabe to the Attawandaron, the Haudenosaunee, and the Métis, these lands surrounding the Great Lakes are steeped in Indigenous history. As we gather today on these treaty lands, we are in solidarity with our Indigenous brothers and sisters to honour and respect the four directions, lands, waters, plants, animals and ancestors that walked before us, and all of the wonderful elements of creation that exist. We acknowledge and thank the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation for being stewards of this traditional territory.
