Hiring Workshop Instructors

Bandology is a proud Canadian non-profit dedicated to supporting more music for more kids via education, collaboration and community. We are looking to hire multiple people on a freelance basis for the role of Workshop Instructor to run music workshops on behalf of Bandology for up to 20 participants.

About the Job:

  • Deliver workshop and instructional programming to a wide variety of ages
  • Make sure workshop participants are happy and engaged during the running of workshops
  • On a freelance basis, travel to various locations in Halton and/or the Kitchener-Waterloo regions to perform workshops
  • Be available for various times, as workshops can run during the day, after school, evenings or on weekends (you do NOT need to have unlimited availability)
  • Communicate with clients on the ground and represent Bandology in a professional manner to community partners
  • Track participant numbers and ensure workshop records are kept up-to-date
  • Conduct surveys and provide feedback on workshops
  • Willing to undergo paid training from Bandology staff in advance of workshop assignments

About You:

  • Enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary program specializing in music education, music performance or similar
  • Experience with music, whether from school bands or choirs or community ensembles
  • A willingness to learn new-to-you music curriculum and instruction
  • Experience working with children and youth (i.e. summer camp counselor, community leader/mentor, etc.)
  • Ability to perform and instruct on percussion instruments and/or wind band instruments and/or piano is nice to have (but we will train you)
  • Direct experience working in education, private lessons, etc. is nice to have
  • Access to a car and the ability to transport yourself and workshop gear is important
  • Comfortable with public speaking to groups of people
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to use compassion and tact when dealing with children, parents and community members
  • A wide base of transferable skills including organization, time management, self regulation, collaboration and leadership
  • A passion for music and a belief in the long-term value of music education
  • A police check and adherence to our vaccination policy (all staff must be fully vaccinated) will be required for the successful candidate

Job Details:

This position runs on a freelance basis as needed at a rate of $20/hour including driving time to and from workshops. Bandology reimburses staff for any approved expenses and offers flexible working hours, professional development and training, and a lively, congenial working atmosphere.
