Marcia Connolly

A passionate educator, Marcia Connolly has been teaching music in the Waterloo Region since 2010 and is currently the Head of Music at Bluevale Collegiate Institute in Waterloo. She previously spent seven years teaching music at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute in Kitchener. In her teaching, she is passionate about the ways in which music can be used to create positive spaces of community and belonging where students find joy and connection with others while creating music together. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Education from Western University in London, ON.

Marcia has a range of conducting experience across both instrumental and choral contexts. She led the Cameron Heights Chamber Choir on stage at the Centre in the Square as featured guests of the Kodaly Choral Festival and also directed the Concert Band at the Canadian Independent Schools Music Festival on stage at Roy Thomson Hall. Marcia enjoys making music in a variety of settings.

Marcia has performed locally as a saxophone player with the Wellington Winds and is a past member of the Age of Majority Singers. For twelve years, she served in the Canadian Armed Forces where she played saxophone as a member of both the Band of the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa as well as the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in Hamilton. Her work with the armed forces has also taken her to London, UK where she performed as part of the Horse Guards Parade. She is looking forward to connecting with local students this July at Band Camp Kitchener-Waterloo.

When she isn’t making music, Marcia loves exploring the outdoors while on hikes or family bike rides which often end at her favourite cafe in Waterloo sipping a London Fog and enjoying a sweet treat.
