Funding Coordinator

Bandology is a proud Canadian non-profit dedicated to supporting more music for more kids via education, collaboration and community. We are looking to hire someone in the role of Funding Coordinator to work collaboratively with the Bandology team to develop and implement a fundraising strategy to fulfill our long-term sustainability goals.

About the Job:

  • Review, update and maintain a contact database of prospective grants, partnerships and donations, including a calendar of submissions and other reporting deadlines
  • Research, prepare and write compelling applications and proposals for a variety of funding requests as well as success stories for applications, social media and presentations
  • Collaborate with colleagues to generate programming details and testimonials for proposals, grant submissions, etc.
  • Research similar organizations to Bandology to further develop the organization
  • Research and conduct outreach to prospective donors in the community
  • Attend networking events in the community to develop potential connections and to promote our programs and services
  • Carefully analyze application requirements to ensure that proposals are drafted in full compliance with funder requirements
  • Collect and prepare covering documents and associated materials for submissions
  • Create a set of procedures, policies and timelines for ongoing fundraising projects to be implemented in the future
  • Record and report outcomes of applications and donor proposals; generate final reports and impact statements; connect with potential and confirmed funders for feedback and next steps
  • Track programming and operations statistics company wide including participant numbers to be used in potential applications
  • Review, monitor and update the website as needed
  • Participate in multiple weeks of Band Camp in July/August and ensure that all campers have a fun and fulfilling experience

About You:

You do not need to be proficient in every single item on this list, so long as you are willing to learn on the job!

  • Enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary program specializing in fundraising, business, marketing, communications, music, education or similar
  • 2-5 years direct experience working in business development and administration, preferably for a non-profit, either paid or volunteer or as a co-op placement OR 2-5 years experience in a fundraising role, either paid or volunteer or as part of a co-op placement
  • Experience in organizing and managing multifaceted projects such as an administrative role in a club, team or workplace setting, running events, or other projects
  • Knowledge of best practices and applied skills in fund development methods and techniques, and persuasive writing
  • Proficiency in drafting funding proposals and reports
  • Experience with grant writing and applications and with grant reviews and reports
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital engagement and strategy for nonprofits is a bonus
  • Excellent writing, research and presentation skills
  • Certified Fundraising Executive designation is considered an asset

Skills to be successful in this job:

  • Comfortable working independently from your own personal space (Bandology is a virtual office) with regular in-person meetings and events (as appropriate) with access to your own computer with reliable internet connection
  • Experience with Google suite of programs, social media and public speaking
  • A wide base of transferable skills including organization, time management, self regulation, collaboration and leadership
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the team
  • Creativity – new ideas are welcomed at Bandology! 
  • A background in instrumental music would be useful, whether from music class, piano lessons or personal interest
  • A passion for music and a belief in the long-term value of music education
  • Camp experience, either as a camper or counsellor, would be useful
  • A police check and adherence to our vaccination policy (all staff must be fully vaccinated) will be required for the successful candidate

  • Remote work utilizing regular online meetings and a central Google Drive for files
  • Attendance at weekly in-person meetings as well as additional training and regular community events and workshops, which often occur on weekends
  • In addition to working with the staff team, staff may work with Board members from diverse backgrounds with varied experience who provide mentorship
  • All staff work together collaboratively during Band Camp weeks (July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31, August 10-14) and are expected to attend in person for the full week

Job Details:

With funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program, this position runs for 16 weeks from May 4 to August 21 for 35 hours per week at a rate of $17.60/hour. Please be aware that in order to be eligible for this position, you must fulfill the Canada Summer Jobs requirements as laid out on their website. Bandology reimburses staff for any approved expenses or mileage and offers flexible working hours, professional development and training, and a lively, congenial working atmosphere.
