Community Outreach and Support Coordinator

Bandology is a proud Canadian non-profit dedicated to supporting more music for more kids via education, collaboration and community. We are looking to hire someone in the role of Community Outreach and Support Coordinator to work collaboratively with the Bandology team to coordinate community engagement and develop inclusive programming within Bandology.

We are looking for people located in either Kitchener, Burlington or Milton for these positions.

About the Job:

  • Develop and establish relationships with arts organizations,  community organizations and local businesses
  • Seek out opportunities for Bandology to participate in community events in our programming regions, such as workshops, vendor booths, performances etc.
  • Develop, manage and coordinate a database of community contacts for Bandology including tracking of engagement and collaborations
  • Provide inclusion support to participants with disabilities and physical, developmental and neurodiversity challenges, ensuring that activities are inclusive, safe and enjoyable
  • Assist in the running of inclusive programming at Bandology’s summer Band Camps
  • Manage and conduct outreach to community and education organizations to promote inclusive programming
  • Work directly with families and other members of the team to develop appropriate support systems for incoming program participants
  • Serve as project lead for events held for the public or with community partners, tracking all aspects of the event including staffing, gear, participants etc.
  • Serve as a support person at workshops and other Bandology programming such as the Bandology Music Lab
  • Work collaboratively with fellow staff to organize events as needed, including community events, fundraising events, etc. 
  • Coordinate with marketing staff to ensure effective communication of Bandology’s message and promotion of events and services
  • Review, monitor and update the website as needed
  • Participate in multiple weeks of Band Camp in July/August and ensure that all campers have a fun and fulfilling experience

About You:

You do not need to be proficient in every single item on this list, so long as you are willing to learn on the job!

  • Enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary program specializing in psychology, education, event management, arts administration, communications, music therapy, child and youth care or similar
  • 2-5 years direct experience working in event management, networking or administration, either paid or volunteer or as a co-op placement
  • 2-5 years direct experience working with children either through employment, volunteer work or other
  • Previous experience working with children and specifically with children with disabilities and similar challenges is a bonus
  • Experience in organizing and managing multifaceted projects such as an administrative role in a club, team or workplace setting, running events, or other projects involving participants
  • Working knowledge of the technical aspect of running events such as setting up equipment and running soundcheck is a bonus but not required
  • Music performance, education or event experience is a bonus
  • First aid/CPR training with current certification would be a bonus

Skills to be successful in this job:

  • Excellent writing, research and interviewing skills
  • Comfortable working independently from your own personal space (Bandology is a virtual office) with regular in-person meetings and events (as appropriate) with access to your own computer with reliable internet connection
  • Experience with Google suite of programs, social media and public speaking
  • A wide base of transferable skills including organization, time management, self regulation, collaboration and leadership
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the team
  • Creativity – new ideas are welcomed at Bandology! 
  • A background in instrumental music would be useful, whether from music class, piano lessons or personal interest
  • A passion for music and a belief in the long-term value of music education
  • Camp experience, either as a camper or counsellor, would be useful
  • A police check and adherence to our vaccination policy (all staff must be fully vaccinated) will be required for the successful candidate

  • Attendance at weekly in-person meetings as well as additional training and regular community events and workshops, which often occur on weekends
  • In addition to working with the staff team, staff may work with Board members from diverse backgrounds with varied experience who provide mentorship
  • All staff work together collaboratively during Band Camp weeks (July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31, August 10-14) and are expected to attend in person for the full week

Job Details:

With funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program, this position runs for 16 weeks from May 4 to August 21 for 35 hours per week at a rate of $17.60/hour. Please be aware that in order to be eligible for this position, you must fulfill the Canada Summer Jobs requirements as laid out on their website. Bandology reimburses staff for any approved expenses or mileage and offers flexible working hours, professional development and training, and a lively, congenial working atmosphere.
