Camp and Workshop Coordinator

Bandology is a proud Canadian non-profit dedicated to supporting more music for more kids via education, collaboration and community. We are looking to hire someone in the role of Camp and Workshop Coordinator to work collaboratively with the Bandology team to participate in the development of new camp and workshop programming.

About the Job:

  • Act as the lead for a week of Band Camp and ensure that all campers (kids and teens) have a fun and fulfilling experience
    • Coordinate, schedule and support the camp music director, sectional instructors, guests and music mentors for all camps
  • Design and deliver workshop and instructional programming to clients and at camp
  • Design and expand accessible options for music programming
    • Create and deliver training and/or training resources to ensure staff are able to deliver accessible programming
  • Implement camp strategy and tactics, identifying specific goals and measurable objectives in collaboration with other team members
  • Collaborate with and support programming staff to ensure effective communication, delivery and development of Bandology’s programs
  • Develop the appropriate resources needed to engage campers in a fun and educational band camp program experience
  • Collaborate with fellow staff to respond to and connect with campers and parents
  • Create and implement a series of surveys to measure camp and workshop outcomes with all audiences; track feedback and participant numbers from all programming
  • In collaboration with coworkers, advertise, promote and coordinate music workshops and percussion parties and run them utilizing various staff and volunteers
  • Support camp directors with their work during other weeks of camp
  • Coordinate with marketing staff to ensure effective communication of Bandology’s message and promotion of camp and workshops
  • Review, monitor and update the website as needed
  • Participate in multiple weeks of Band Camp in July/August and ensure that all campers have a fun and fulfilling experience

About You:

You do not need to be proficient in every single item on this list, so long as you are willing to learn on the job!

  • Enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary program specializing in education or music education or similar
  • Ability to perform and instruct on percussion instruments and/or wind band instruments and/or piano
  • 2-5 years direct experience working in education, private lessons and/or camp
  • Camp experience, either as a camper or counsellor
  • Proven ability to lead and direct a team in a camp situation, working with both paid staff and volunteer mentors
  • First aid/CPR training with current certification would be a bonus

Skills to be successful in this job:

  • Excellent writing, research and interviewing skills
  • Comfortable with public speaking, both in person and online
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to use compassion and tact when dealing with campers, parents and other community members
  • Comfortable working independently from your own personal space (Bandology is a virtual office) with regular in-person meetings and events (as appropriate) with access to your own computer with reliable internet connection
  • Experience with Google suite of programs and public speaking
  • A wide base of transferable skills including organization, time management, self regulation, collaboration and leadership
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the team
  • Creativity – new ideas are welcomed at Bandology! 
  • A background in instrumental music, whether from music class, piano lessons or personal interest
  • A passion for music and a belief in the long-term value of music education
  • A police check and adherence to our vaccination policy (all staff must be fully vaccinated) will be required for the successful candidate

  • Attendance at weekly in-person meetings as well as additional training and regular community events and workshops, which often occur on weekends
  • In addition to working with the staff team, staff may work with Board members from diverse backgrounds with varied experience who provide mentorship
  • All staff work together collaboratively during Band Camp weeks (July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31, August 10-14) and are expected to attend in person for the full week

Job Details:

With funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program, this position runs for 16 weeks from May 4 to August 21 for 35 hours per week at a rate of $17.60/hour. Please be aware that in order to be eligible for this position, you must fulfill the Canada Summer Jobs requirements as laid out on their website. Bandology reimburses staff for any approved expenses or mileage and offers flexible working hours, professional development and training, and a lively, congenial working atmosphere.
