Alex Rasi

Alex Rasi is an oboist, singer-songwriter and music educator. She began playing the oboe as a Grade 9 student at Thomas A. Blakelock High School in Oakville and has enjoyed the challenge of playing this quirky and complex instrument ever since. While in high school Alex played in high-level wind ensembles, orchestras and chamber groups (such as the Ontario Provincial Honour Band and Halton Senior Winds) and performed as a soloist at a Royal Conservatory of Music showcase. She has been awarded scholarships by the Halton Youth Symphony, the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Orchestra and the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty of Music.

Alex attended Wilfrid Laurier University to earn her Honours Bachelor of Music, with a concentration in music education. While at Laurier, she studied with Richard Dorsey (former principal oboist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra) and performed with groups such as the Laurier Wind Orchestra, the Kitchener Waterloo Youth Symphony, the Laurier Singer-Songwriter’s Club and the Band of the Governor General’s Horse Guards.

Alex received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and is certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. She is an innovative educator who is passionate about making classical music relevant for 21st century learners.

Alex is currently working with the Waterloo Region District School Board and performs in Toronto with ensembles such as the Festival Wind Orchestra and the Metropolitan Winds. She teaches private lessons in Oakville and Kitchener-Waterloo.
